book-83126_640 (1)Probably not- but now you do! There are a variety of ways to earn cash from books, you just have to know where, and how, to start. Cashing in on books is actually really easy! In this chapter, I will guide you through the pages of those books and teach you how to turn a quick profit; or even turn it into your own business. It’s all up to you! Here we go…

Hunting Down Your Old Books

If you’re like any other kid, you probably have a variety of books sitting around your bedroom. They are probably collecting dust, or have been read a million times. Perhaps they are old school books, or children’s books that you used to love as a younger child. Either way, you have probably found that you do not have much of a use for them. How about trading them in for new books? Or just getting some quick change for them? Not a bad idea huh?

Once you have all of your old books, you need to make sure that they are in good condition. Ensure that they are clean, and completely dusted off. You also want to make sure that there are no pages that are ripped out; this could be a quick reason for someone to turn down your books. Spills are also bad. If liquid comes into contact with a book, it will become warped and the pages will become hard to flip. After they are all sorted and cleaned, you can move on to the next step!

Gathering Your Books’ ISBN Numbers and Appraising Them

Before you can sell them, you need to find out some information about the books. You want to make sure that you can get a really good price for them! First, look on the back of the book for its

ISBN number (this will be located near the bar code). This is an identification number, and EVERY book has a different one. It is kind of like the book’s fingerprint, or social security number. No two books have the same ISBN number, unless it is the exact same title.

Now that you have the ISBN number, you can appraise it. An appraisal is when you find out how much something is worth. You can search online to find out how much your book is worth! All you have to do is enter the ISBN number into a google search, like so: “ISBN 000 000 00000″. This should bring up your book!

Where Can You Sell Your Books?

As a teen, it can be hard to find some good places to sell your books. Firstly, you will need parental permission for some methods, such as selling the book in person. You may even need parental assistance selling it online, but it’s quite possible that you won’t. If you are given a check, you will need to have your parents help you to cash it. The first option is to sell them to friends. If you have some awesome novels that you loved, it’s quite possible a friend would be more than willing to buy them. If not, you can list them on online marketplaces and advertising sites! You could even have help to list them on Ebay or Amazon. There are sites like www.Chegg.com that are dedicated to buying and selling books; mainly text books.

Can You Sell School Books Too???

As long as a textbook that you have is not owned by the school, you can most definitely sell it too! This usually applies to college students, but sometimes middle and high school students have to buy special text books for their classes too. If this applies to you, and you do not need the book for any future classes (or any other purpose), then you can sell it off for some money. You will have the most luck selling it through companies who specialize in text books. If it is a popular book in your area and is needed for future students of whatever class you may have taken, you can advertise it in local classifieds or through word of mouth. Facebook is an excellent platform for this purpose, because your peers will see your facebook update concerning the book; they might know someone who needs it! You can easily sell a used textbook for half of the price of a new one; usually even up to 75% of the cost of a new one.
